In accordance with the Bylaws, the FW-TCYLA Bar Year runs from September 1 thru August 31 each year. The FW-TCYLA is governed by a Board of Directors elected semi-annually to serve six-month terms.
Since its inception in 1928, the FW-TCYLA has been an organization dedicated to improving the legal profession in Tarrant County as well as effectuating positive interaction with the local community. Through outreach programs, the FW-TCYLA has sought to enhance the tainted reputation of the legal profession while satisfying various needs in the surrounding area. Some examples just from this year include: Summer Angels school uniform drive, NICA Christmas Party, Annual Free CLE for Young Lawyer, Teen Court, Liberation Clinic, and the presentation of a law school scholarship.
The second and arguably most important facet of the dual mission of the FW-TCYLA is service to its members. Membership services fall into two categories, one conventional and one somewhat unconventional. The more traditional membership services include: monthly CLE luncheons, a monthly newsletter, and mentorship programs. These programs such as the Walk Through the Courthouse and our Clerkship Initiative programs are designed to assist new attorneys. Less conventional member services, which are offered to instill camaraderie among young lawyers, include: monthly socials, Spring Fiesta, and our annual scholarship golf tournament.
Being a professional, time and money are valuable resources, which, unfortunately, are frequently in short supply. Additionally, as an attorney, such resources are constantly being solicited by a multitude of noble causes and organizations, and you are left to decide where such limited resources can be channeled most effectively.
