HEALING THE WOUNDS – Wednesday, February 17th – Family Lawyers Needed |
|
On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, FW-TCYLA volunteers will be presenting “Healing the Wounds: A Guide to Navigating the Legal System After Abuse” to The Ladder Alliance from 6:45 – 8:00 p.m. Ladder Alliance is non-profit organization located in Fort Worth whose mission is to empower women victims of domestic violence and other at-risk women to become self-sufficient and provide for their children. The program that we will put on will consist of a 25 minute video of an abuse survivor explaining how to communicate with her attorney, what to expect in court and their rights when the divorce is final. Our members will conclude the presentation by answering questions about family law, domestic violence issues, and legal assistance available to these women in need. Informational pamphlets about these issues will also be provided to the students. In addition, FW-TCYLA will host a dinner for the Ladder Alliance students prior to the session. This event is made possible through a grant from the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
We need volunteers, specifically those with family law or children's advocacy experience, to assist with this presentation. We also invite our members to attend this event to assist with set up and preparation and to join these women for dinner prior to the presentation. Please contact Laura Docker at ldocker@belaw.com if you are interested in getting involved.
