TCYLA 2021-2022 Elections

TCYLA 2021-2022 elections are approaching! All candidates for Director or Officer must be current members of TCYLA.

Officer Elections:
Elections for President-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer will take place at the Board meeting on April 7. Candidates must be current Board Members. You may nominate someone or self-nominate by email Andrea Palmer by March 5.

Director Elections:
The Nominations Committee will meet in June to propose next year’s elected slate of Directors. If you are interested in serving as a Director, please email Andrea Palmer by May 6. The Nominations Committee will present the slate at the July Board Meeting; after that meeting, the President will appoint two additional Directors. If you are interested in running and are not elected or appointed, the July Newsletter will detail petition information, which is also found in Article 8.4(b) of the TCYLA Bylaws.

All candidates are encouraged to review the TCYLA Bylaws, and keep in mind the prohibition against campaigning: “A candidate for Director of the Corporation shall not, either before or after the placing of said candidate’s name on the ballot, promote himself or herself for said position through the use of social media, mass mailings, mass electronic transmission, or mass facsimile transmissions. Furthermore, no candidate for such office will encourage anyone else to use the foregoing means to promote his or her candidacy.” Article 8.5(b).

Fall Slow-Pitch Softball League

Spring is near and there is limited time to find your glove and join TCYLA for the upcoming softball season. All are encouraged to join the co-ed softball team, which will compete in the CERA Slow-Pitch League. League play begins the week of March 15th and guarantees ten games to be played at 3300 Bryant Irvin Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76109, anywhere from 6:45 pm to 9:30 pm on Thursdays/Fridays. TCYLA will pay the registration fee, each player will be responsible for a $20 membership fee. If you would like to reserve a spot on the roster or have any questions, please reach out to John Easter by Monday, March 8.

TCYLA practices safety protocols in accordance with state and local rules, including the requirement to self-screen for COVID symptoms before playing and maintaining 6-feet distance between players at all times. Masks are encouraged. Players assume all risks of injury or sickness.

Wellness Project: Trivia Nights

TCYLA's second virtual trivia night was another success! The "Legal Eagles" did surprisingly well on a round all about slow jams and came in 27 out of 44 teams! We hope to continue climbing up the ranks at the March pub quiz. If you would like to reserve a spot for our next trivia night or have any questions, please reach out to Spencer Mainka.
 

TCYLA is participating in Geeks Who Drink virtual trivia via Zoom as part of the Wellness Series. TCYLA will pay the registration fee through a grant from the Texas Young Lawyers Association. Join us for socially distanced fun, networking, and community!

Prior to founding the Lankford Law Firm, Christopher M. Lankford was a managing partner at the Law Offices of Lankford & Knapp. He founded the Lankford Law Firm in order to focus on criminal defense and to allow himself the flexibility to serve a broader range of clients. As a Fort Worth criminal defense attorney and DWI lawyer, he takes pride in fighting for individual's rights, freedom, and protecting them from the harsh consequences of the criminal justice system.

Christopher has been named a Top 100 Trial Lawyer each year from 2014-2016 by the National Trial Lawyers Association (NTLA) for Texas (North) and a 2014 & 2015 Top Attorney by Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. He is rated "Superb" by Avvo attorney ratings, Avvo's highest rating. Christopher graduated from Baylor Law School with a concentration in Criminal Law. While attending Baylor, he worked in the McLennan County District Attorney's office. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and Tarrant County College. Christopher is also a graduate of the Texas Criminal Trial College in Huntsville, TX.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCCDLA), Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA), Tarrant County Bar Association (TCBA), Christian Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), National College for DUI Defense (NCDD), and the College of the State Bar of Texas (The College).

Christopher is a United States Marine Corps veteran. Enlisting a month after September 11, 2001, he served primarily as a legal administration clerk. He also served in key roles such as a security specialist and a marksmanship instructor. He now spends much of his free time volunteering, attending sporting events, or participating in triathlons, endurance, and adventure races.

Join the Diversity Committee to celebrate and hear from local Titans of Law and stay for a toast to them and the Tarrant County legal community. Guest mixologist Karmen Johnson will help us prepare a simple and festive toast at the end of the program.
